Star Trek: Dark Universe
When a new Star Trek movie that was meant to follow Star Trek Beyond got canceled back in 2017, I decided to write my own script. I wanted it to follow true Star Trek canon, and to be the continuation after Star Trek Beyond. I also wanted it to have a superstar cast that not only included the entire reboot crew with Chris Pine as the new Captain Kirk, but also some of my favorite characters including Jean-Luc Picard, Katheryn Janeway, Q, as well as the original Captain Kirk, played by William Shatner. This script is equivalent to a two-hour movie and is inspired by the following movies and TV episodes:
It all starts with "The Tholian Web" from the original series which aired way back in 1968, where they search for the missing USS Defiant and discover that it is phasing out of their universe and into another dimension...
From this episode, "In a Mirror, Darkly" is born, a Star Trek: Enterprise TV episode that aired in 2005, revealing what happened to the USS Defiant after phasing out of the known universe and shifting into the mirror universe. This is a two-part series, and plays a huge part in my script. It is one of my favorites and I highly recommend you watch it, but you can also just watch the opening scene and then the summary below.
This script is also based off of Star Trek: Generations, the movie where Jean-Luc Picard meets Captain Kirk in the Nexus, an extra-dimensional place of wonder beyond space and time that is capable of fulfilling every wish imaginable.
And finally, there is "Coda," a TV episode from Star Trek: Voyager, where Katheryn Janeway has a near-death experience and meets an entity that masquerades as her father, tells her she is dead, and tries to persuade her to join his "matrix" where she will be happy and have everything that she desires.
All of this sets the stage for my script, which takes place right after the most recent movie, Star Trek Beyond, which came out in 2016:
And last, but not least, here is a preview for my script, pulling clips from many of the aforementioned shows and movies:
