Experiments 10 and 11: A Cock-up and a Mulligan

My name is Craig Morrin. I have been building meditation pyramids for over two decades now, and I have decided to embark upon the crazy and most dubious quest to do something that has never been done, ever before: to prove through scientific experiments that pyramid energy actually exists. 08/26/25:

Oh, boy...it's been a mess the past 2-1/2 weeks. So in my last last experiment (#10), I decided to try to remove an extra step. In the past, I would soak each batch of mung beans in one tablespoon of water, let sit overnight, then pour the water into empty cups to be able to move each batch of beans into different cups, each with one tablespoon dry sand, then add each batch of beans on top of the sand, then cover each batch with 1.5 teaspoons of dry sand, before finally pouring the original water from each batch back onto batch of beans with their original water.

Are your eyes glazed over? Mine are. The point is, for this experiment, I decided to simplify it a little bit. For each of the three samples, I added one tablespoon of water to each empty cup. Then I added one tablespoon of dry, filtered sand. The sand dropped to the bottom, leaving quite a bit of water on top. Then I added 10 dry mung beans into the water on top of the sand in each sample to let them soak overnight:

You can see the beans soaking in the water, but it was not as clean and clear as how I did it before. Anyway, after soaking overnight, I added two teaspoons of dry sand on top of each batch:

You can see that the water level was still above the level of the sand. I don't know if it was because of that, or because I soaked each batch of beans in "dirty" water--or both--but in any case, that was it. After 8 days, and seeing absolutely nothing happening, I stopped the experiment, emptied out each cup, and the results were exactly the same:

All 30 seeds, from all 3 samples...rotted.

So much for shortcuts.

For my next experiment (#11), I went back to my regular routine: soaking the beans overnight in one tablespoon each of clean water and then in separate cups, one tablespoon dry sand, the beans on top, 1.5 teaspoons dry sand on top, and then carefully poured the water back on top:

After 9 days, this is what they looked like:

Here is a close-up comparison of the three samples, with the right sample on the left and the left sample on the right side of the image (forgot to switch them for the picture--again), with the pyramid sample in the middle:

Uh...ya.

The pyramid sample did the worst of them all. I actually stopped the experiment at this point because I realized that perhaps the bigger issue with Experiment #10 was that the water level was above the level of the beans for a long enough time to drown them. You will notice from the first picture in this experiment, that the water level also started out above the level of the dirt--but not as much as in Experiment #10. So perhaps for some of the samples, the water was a little lower and didn't stunt the growth of the beans so much, because as the water slowly began to evaporate out of the cups, the beans did not drown and were able to take off. Notice that in the picture above, the pyramid sample in the middle looks the wettest of them all.

OK, but if this is true, that means that all of the experiments I have been doing with mung beans so far are invalid because the slightest difference in water levels between samples could have significantly affected the results. Right then and there, the heavens parted and the light of God shown down upon me. In that austere, epiphanic moment...I realized that I need to poke holes in the bottom of my cups so that the water can drain in each sample and not drown out the beans.

Alright, I might not be the sharpest tool in the garden shed when it comes to growing things, but at least I can learn from my mistakes and keep on trying. Which is exactly what I will do in the next experiment.

MULLIGAN!!!
